Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The entire compression happens in your browser, in a separate process (a Web Worker), and the compressed file is created in your own device's memory. You can check for yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab and compress a PDF — no request ever carries your file.
What is the maximum file size?
150 MB per PDF. Because the whole file is processed in the browser's memory, anything larger risks running the tab out of memory before it finishes; we prefer a clear limit to a silent failure.
Does compression lose quality?
Text, fonts and vector graphics are not touched — they stay sharp, selectable and searchable. Only images are recompressed (JPEG quality and maximum resolution). The Light level favors image quality, Strong favors file size, and the advanced settings let you set the exact values.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
No. An encrypted PDF can't be read without its password. Remove the password in the original application or your PDF reader, then compress the file.
Do I need an account, an install or a paid plan?
No. The tool is free, asks for no sign-up, installs nothing and adds no watermark. All you need is an up-to-date browser.
